How we 3x'd our newsletter in 90 days

2,001 chars
When we started our newsletter last January, we had 412 subscribers. By April we had 1,287. Here's the unsexy playbook that actually moved the needle — no growth hacks, no buying lists, no AI-generated junk. **1. We picked one promise and stuck to it.** Every issue answers the same question: "What's one thing I can apply to my work this week?" That's it. No hot takes, no industry news roundups, no "5 things I learned." A single, useful idea per issue. Subscribers told us this is the only reason they stop unsubscribing — they know exactly what they're getting. **2. We made the subject line do all the work.** Open rates went from 31% to 58% when we stopped writing clever subject lines and started writing literal ones. "The 30-minute meeting test" beat "A simple framework for cutting waste." The literal version sounds boring on paper but performs better every time. Curiosity gaps die in the inbox; clarity wins. **3. We added one CTA per issue. Just one.** Reply, share, click, book — pick one and only one. When we tested issues with multiple CTAs vs. one, the single-CTA versions got 4x the action. Decision fatigue is real even at the inbox level. **4. We borrowed audiences instead of building one.** Cold growth is brutal. Instead, we wrote five guest essays for newsletters with audiences 10x ours, and offered to do the same for any creator who'd swap. That alone added ~600 subs. The trick: write something the host newsletter's audience genuinely wants — not a thinly veiled ad for yours. **5. We unsubscribed people on purpose.** Twice a quarter, anyone who hadn't opened in 60 days got auto-removed. Counter-intuitive, but it lifts deliverability and forces honest metrics. A 2,000-person list of openers beats a 10,000-person list of ghosts. The boring truth: newsletter growth is a quality-and-consistency game, not a tactics game. Show up weekly with one useful idea, write subject lines a tired person can scan, and don't be afraid to prune. That's the whole thing.

We grew our newsletter from 412 to 1,287 subs in 90 days. No buying lists. No "growth hacks." No AI slop. Five things actually moved the needle: One promise per issue. Every email answers the same question: "What's one thing I can apply this week?" Subscribers stop unsubscribing when they know exactly what they're getting. Literal subject lines, not clever ones. "The 30-minute meeting test" beats "A simple framework for cutting waste." Open rates went 31% → 58%. Curiosity gaps die in the inbox. One CTA per issue. Just one. Multiple CTAs got 4x less action than single-CTA versions. Decision fatigue exists at the inbox level too. Borrowed audiences. We wrote five guest essays for newsletters 10x our size and swapped with peers. ~600 subs from that alone. Trick: write something their audience wants, not an ad for yours. Pruned aggressively. Anyone who hadn't opened in 60 days → auto-removed. A 2,000-person list of openers beats a 10,000-person list of ghosts. The boring truth: newsletter growth is a quality-and-consistency game, not a tactics game. What's the one thing your last issue promised your readers? #Newsletters #ContentMarketing

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know before you try PrimePost.

Will the AI output actually sound like me?
On the Free and Pro tiers, PrimePost adapts tone to match each platform's conventions (professional for LinkedIn, punchy for X, etc.). On Business, you can configure a Brand Voice — tone, style, keywords to include/avoid, and example content — and every output will match it.
Is my content private?
Yes. Your input and outputs are stored encrypted in your account and are never used to train AI models. We use Anthropic's Claude API, which has zero-retention on business inputs by default. You can delete any transform from your history at any time.
What platforms do you support?
Seven formats, each optimized for its platform: long-form X (Twitter) posts (optimized for X Premium), LinkedIn posts, Email newsletters, Instagram captions, Blog summaries, YouTube descriptions, and Facebook posts.
What counts as one transform?
One transform is one paste — regardless of how many formats you generate from it. If you paste a blog post and generate X, LinkedIn, and email versions, that's one transform, not three.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Manage or cancel your subscription from your Settings page in one click — no calls, no forms. Your Pro/Business features stay active until the end of your billing period.
Do you offer an API?
Yes, on the Business plan. You get programmatic access to all 7 formats with your configured Brand Voice applied automatically. 1,000 requests per day per key, with full docs at /api-docs.
How is PrimePost different from ChatGPT?
PrimePost is purpose-built for content repurposing. Each format has prompts engineered by content strategists — not generic 'summarize this.' You get platform-native output (long-form X posts, LinkedIn hooks, hashtag patterns) in one click, plus saved history, brand voice, and team workflows.
What if I hit my free limit?
You'll see the option to upgrade to Pro ($19/mo, unlimited transforms) or keep going next month. All your past transforms stay accessible — we never delete your history.
